About
Built Because It Needed to Exist.
Angrove gives serious questions a place that is private, lasting, and open to everyone. It's a personal project, built in the open, by one person who believes this particular use of AI should exist.
From the Founder
I'm Ryan, a web designer and software builder with a lasting interest in philosophy, theology, and history. Angrove began when I learned that a capable language model could run entirely on a phone. That technical fact raised a more human question: what might someone finally be willing to ask if they knew the conversation could not leave their device?
I kept thinking about the questions people carry quietly, about faith, doubt, meaning, and truth, and about how little technology is built to help us stay with them. I wanted something that would make inquiry deeper rather than easier to avoid: a place to test an argument, follow a contradiction, and keep the ideas worth returning to.
I didn't build Angrove as a demonstration of what AI can do. I'm building it because I believe this particular use of it should exist, and because the people who need it most are often the least served by the technology we already have.
Principles
What Angrove Stands On
Sovereignty
You are the sole owner of your data. No cloud, no sync, no surveillance. What you think within Angrove stays under your control.
Permanence
Ideas are given structure and kept, like a library, so inquiry can deepen over time instead of disappearing into a feed.
Rigorous Inquiry
Inspired by the Scholastic method: test arguments at their strongest, examine contradictions, and keep conclusions open to revision.
Accessibility
Angrove is free. The biggest questions there are shouldn't be paywalled. It's a resource built from conviction, not a product chasing revenue.
Built in the open
Read the Source
Angrove is in active development and isn't publicly released yet. The work happens in three public repositories.
SwiftUI
Angrove iOS
The iPhone app: the on-device model runtime, source-grounded study, and the Insight Tree.
Docs and research
Angrove Foundations
Product, design, and architecture documents, plus research on running and fine-tuning models on a phone.
Python tooling
Angrove Backend
Offline tools for building the Library, converting models, and evaluating answers. The app doesn't call it.
Coming to iPhone
Bring the Question You've Been Carrying.
Angrove is free, private, and in active development. Check launch status for updates as development continues.
